It’s been an abnormal week for me, as I just got back from a ski trip in Aspen with my family to celebrate graduation. What a delightful trip it was. We ate, we skied, we ate some more. I got to explore a new mountain town with my loved ones, and got some fresh air and exercise in the meantime.
I have not had much time the past week to do much writing, but I was able to do some relaxing and thinking. The slopes are quite meditative. All you have to worry about is the next turn, and next thing you know, you’re down the mountain. I think that’s a bit like life. I often try to make decisions two, three, and ten steps from now, but it rarely works the way I plan. So instead, I have been trying to just make my next turn.
You can expect more well-researched posts from me soon, as I have built a content calendar for the next month. And without Booth classes occupying most of my time, I will have much more time to write about startups and tech. In the meantime, I have accumulated some random thoughts of mine from the past week. I hope you enjoy.
Some good time in the fresh mountain air is really good for my mental health.
Skiing is such a great workout. It really burns the thighs.
I am in awe of the snow-capped mountains and the snow-lined pines.
Altitude is hard. 10,000 feet does a number on the lungs.
AI is coming for all of our jobs.
We have some time, AI won’t take our jobs soon. Probably.
AI right now is like the internet in 1998, and it would be a shame to miss out on the wave.
While AI is cool, it doesn’t quite do anything as well as I want it to. Back to building software to do those things.
Sometimes, I wish I had a skilled trade with my hands, because knowledge work is so hard to differentiate these days.
Man, skiing fresh powder is fun.
Whoops, I did not see that mogul. That hurt.
It’ll be nice to have some free time in the evenings to catch up on Severance and White Lotus.
Twitter is full of incredible thoughts.
Twitter is full of nonsensical ramblings.
It’s wild how quickly I can change my Twitter algorithm with just a few likes.
I can’t believe it’s called X now.
I’m glad F1 is back. I love watching on Sunday mornings.
The Players really feels like the start of the PGA Tour season.
How many days until football?
I wish I watched more college basketball so I knew how to fill out this bracket.
Writing online is incredibly rewarding and also incredibly hard. But I’ll keep showing up.
Being self-promotional online is challenging. How do people shamelessly do it? It seems like it is worth the effort, but first I have to get over the cringe factor.
I learned so much from my time at Booth. I am going to miss being in class, but I’m excited for the next chapter.
The springtime in Chicago is wonderful. I missed going for long walks outside.
I really hope this isn’t Chicago winter masquerading as spring in March. Please stay warm.
It’s so impressive when people host events and throw parties. It takes a lot of effort, but it’s so special to be invited to anything. The default is not doing things. And yet people astound me by constantly doing cool things. Any act of creation is courageous, whether it be hosting a dinner party or running a March Madness bracket pool.
A little bit of self-care goes a long way.
I am so appreciative of the support from all of you reading.
Until next week,
Cory
What a wonderful reflection. Life moments! Excited to read more of your musings. Meanwhile, enjoy the ride. It's special!
